Originally we were going to tie the White Tiger. Okay! Its my fault because I didn't know who was going to tie this pattern. Tell you the truth it would have been a good one since I don't even know what it looks like.
So I had to find a substitute and Jack Keller agreed. So Jack Keller will cover tying a Mantis Shrimp for us. There are many varieties, but we discussed our options and came up with this easy to tie pattern. The debate was whether to dub the body or not. We opted NOT! Dubbing is a good skill but we'll save it for another time.
The shrimp pattern may have come from bonefish flies, but redfish and seatrout love these critters. If you have ever handled a mantis shrimp, you know that you have to find a way to grab it without it grabbing you. But, I assure you that this pattern is safe to handle.
Jack is going to make this pattern easy for even the beginning fly tyer. Its a great way to start the year so place this meeting on your calendar.
Join us this coming Tuesday, January 12, 2016 (Wow! Its 16 already!) at Bass Pro Shop's meeting room by the bowling alley at Uncle Bucks. We're starting at 6:30 pm.
