2015 Fly Tying Schedule
The Rio Grande Valley Fly Tyers Club has month fly tying meetings. On occassion special meetings will be provided for to tie unique fly patterns. Visit this page regularly for information.
The session is open to anyone wanting to learn to tie flies. Club members in good standing with the IFFF tie for free, guests pay $3.00 per session. Fly tying vises and materials are provided.
Unless noted the fly tying sessions will be held at the Bass Pro Shop meeting room by the restaurant and bowling alley. The sessions start at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month.
Spinning Hair with John Pilmer - Tuesday, February 17, 2015
The session introduces fly tiers to the principles behind spinning with deer hair. Some fly tying experience would be good, but there will be plenty of help for beginners.
Intruder with Jack Keller - Tuesday, March 10, 2015
This pattern is probably more well-suited to cold-water steelhead fisheries, but Jack Keller uses these flies for many of our inshore and near-shore species. If you have never tied a tube pattern, here's the day to learn. This is also a pattern that we're going to fish pretty soon under the lights.
